China-US Province-State Green and Low-Carbon Cooperation Seminar and Matchmaking Meeting held during the 21st CIFIT

China-US Province-State Green and Low-Carbon Cooperation Seminar and Matchmaking Meeting was held on 8th August in Xiamen during the 21st CIFIT. Attending this meeting were about 260 representatives from business communities and local governments of Chinese provinces and municipalities such as Fujian, Heilongjiang, Yunnan, Shandong, Chongqing, Guangdong, Sichuan, Jiangxi and Tianjin and American states such as California, Ohio, Washington, New York and North Carolina. The attendees had in-depth discussions and shared their best cases and experience in strengthening China-US province-state economic and trade cooperation and coping with climate change, and explored the immense business opportunities in product trade, technology communication and investment cooperation in the green and low-carbon industry.

Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative stressed in his keynote speech that this event is the first seminar with the theme of developing green and low-carbon cooperation and addressing climate change through the China-US province-state economic and trade cooperation mechanism. China aims to develop green trade, encourage foreign investment in industries like energy conservation and environmental protection, ecological environment and green services, and deepen green and low-carbon international cooperation. China’s green and low-carbon transformation, combined with the advantages of a super-size domestic market, will provide great development opportunities for China-US economic and trade cooperation.

Wang Shouwen pointed out that to strengthen China-US green and low-carbon cooperation is inseparable from a healthy and stable bilateral economic and trade environment. China-US relationship is at a critical juncture. By fully leveraging the role of economic and trade relations as the “ballast” and “stabilizer”, the two sides could strengthen cooperation and manage differences to push bilateral economic and trade relations back on the right track as soon as possible and achieve greater development on the basis of mutual benefit.

Guo Ningning, Vice Governor of Fujian Province, stated in her speech that centering around the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, Fujian will pursue green-conscious development and keep building on green development momentum. She hoped that through the China-US province-state economic and trade cooperation mechanism, the channel of communication and contact between Fujian Province and American states could be established and enhanced to deepen exchanges and expand cooperation.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, former California Governor Edmund Brown and Lieutenant Governor of Washington Denny Heck also gave video speeches. They stressed that American states and China have forged close economic and trade ties. They look forward to more practical cooperation in the green and low-carbon industry to cope with climate change together and promote their economic development.
